I recently had the pleasure of testing Titchy Threads’ newest pattern, The Twisted Trousers. It’s no surprise to me that this is an AMAZING top-notch pattern, since I have previously made The Hawthorn Zip-Up Sweatshirt (my version here) and the Small Fry Skinny Jeans (my version here) by Titchy Threads and they are two of the best patterns I’ve ever made. I was officially a tester for my older son’s size (8), so I made his pair first.
I used 2 different colors of blue twill to highlight the “Twisted” seams and I lined these with a turquoise flannel. The pattern has thorough instructions for lining the pants and suggests up-sizing if lining, so I made these in a size 9, which eases the fit a bit (since the lining adds a little bulk) and makes them long enough for a neat contrasting cuff at the bottom (which I love!).
This really is the perfect pants pattern for my boys and our picky tastes… they have a ribbed waist (my boys refuse to wear pants that don’t have an elastic waistband), the fit is a bit on the skinnier side than what they are used to (which I think looks nice), but there is still enough ease that they will wear them and are comfortable (and believe me, they are picky). I haven’t tried making them for little Lucy yet, only because she lives in leggings, but I might give that a try because there were several really awesome girl versions in testing!
When I was done making Sam’s blue Twisted Trousers (yes, his favorite color is blue and he picked the fabrics!), Henry of course had to have a green pair (cause his favorite color is green!), so I made him a size 4 un-lined pair with some green denim I got at Joann’s. I tried to make nice neat top-stitching to accentuate the twists… it’s far from perfect, but I still love these… and so does my little guy!
That’s my big boys – Lookin’ good! Pappa G
