I’m so excited to be joining the Boys Can Wear Pink Blog Tour today hosted by Handmade Boy!  I have followed along with this tour the past few years and I’m honored to be a participant this year!

I haven’t been sewing much lately but when I heard that this tour was coming up I practically begged to be included because my little boy LOVES his piggies and he also loves pink!  I have been wanting to make him piggy slippers for awhile now and this was the perfect opportunity!

I used the Animal Boots for Big Kids Pattern by Twig & Tale.  The pattern comes in sizes 18 months to 9 years!  It includes detailed instructions for 13 differenr animals…it doesn’t include the details for the pig, but I was able to easily make them up using the deer template.  I moved the eyes up a hair, enlarged the ears of the deer a little bit, and wung the snout.  I also wung the shape of the tale…

For fabric, I actually didn’t have any suitable pink fabric but didn’t want to buy any new fabric so I dyed two different white sherpa fabrics in the same dye.   One of the fabrics didn’t take to the dye very well and the other took the dye better than I expected so I chose to use the very pale pink with the brighter accents.  I lined these with white Luxe fleece from JoAnn’s and for the sole I used scraps of suede leather for traction and durability.

I am totally blown away by how easily this pattern came together!  I think the construction is really clever and they really fit nicely!  The boots have hidden elastic between the layers around the ankle so they really stay on nicely!  He has been running around the house in these non-stop…and this kid runs, climbs, and jumps around a LOT!

He’s so tickled that I actually sewed something for him!!!!  Don’t forget to check out all the other amazing stops on tour!
